Dubai in January is the year's first real read on what operators are worried about, and this one was unusually consistent. Sixty-one conversations on the stand, and the opening question in most of them was some version of the same thing: how quickly can a trader actually be paid, and what happens when a payment provider goes quiet.
Nobody asked us for another dashboard. They asked how fast money moves and who to call when it doesn't.
That is a shift. Two years ago the same room wanted to talk about challenge mechanics and dashboards. This year the interest had moved downstream to treasury, reconciliation and PSP redundancy β the parts of the business that only become visible when they break.
The other recurring theme was regional licensing. Several firms in the room were mid-way through structuring for a MENA entity and wanted to know what their reporting obligations would look like day to day rather than in the abstract. We ended up walking through audit-trail exports more often than the risk engine.
If you were on the stand and we owe you a follow-up, it's in the pipeline. If we missed you, the next room is Limassol in May.
